There are billions of people in the World who, each day, read articles written by authors in newspapers and magazines or on the internet. They are also responsible for producing material for books (fiction and non-fiction) written for educational and recreational purposes. It is possible for authors to greatly influence the lives of people via their writing. This is shown by the importance placed on all kinds of religious and theoretical texts produced over the millennia. Storytelling plays an important part in all cultures and certain writers have become very popular through the centuries.
