Stamps with the theme Bees
Bees are flying insects closely related to wasps and ants. They play an important role in pollinating flowering plants. Bees feed on nectar and pollen. Most pollen is used as food for larvae. The European honey bee is the best-known bee species, which, as its name suggests, produces honey. Despite the honey bee's painful sting and the stereotype of insects as pests, bees are generally held in high regard. In Indonesia bee larvae is a delicacy. They are eaten as a companion to rice, after being mixed with shredded coconut meat, wrapped in banana leaves, and steamed.
